Regions names new heads of tech, M&A, consumer products

Regions Financial in Birmingham, Ala., has shifted three executives into new roles, bringing new leadership to its consumer banking products, corporate development and technology teams.

Kate Danella, the bank's head of strategy, has taken on an additional role as head of consumer products, where she will oversee the bank's $30 billion of consumer loans and $59 billion of consumer deposits.

In the role, Danella will also be responsible for developing lending and payments partnerships with fintechs. The $129 billion-asset Regions currently has a referral partnership with the consumer lender Avant, though it recently said it would not renew its contract with GreenSky, an Atlanta fintech that facilitates point-of-sale loans for home improvements, elective medical procedures and other services that its bank partners then hold on their books.

Danella joined Regions in 2015.

The company also named Logan Pichel its head of corporate development, overseeing financial planning and analysis as well as mergers and acquisitions. Pichel, who joined Regions in 2005, had most recently overseen the bank’s enterprise operations and before that was head of consumer lending.

Finally, Regions has named Amala Duggirala as head operations and technology. Duggirala had been the bank’s enterprise chief information officer since 2017. Before joining Regions, Duggirala was the chief technology officer at Kabbage, an online small-business lender.

“Kate, Logan, and Amala are all outstanding leaders who have contributed greatly to Regions’ success,” Regions CEO John Turner said in an announcement Thursday. “They bring a diversity of experience and a record of innovation to their new roles as well as a shared enthusiasm for meeting customer needs.”
