Visa Inc. may soon test a system for making contactless payments with an Apple Inc. iPhone using a case with a chip in it, according to reports.
The case would use technology from DeviceFidelity Inc. and would fit the 3G and 3GS iPhone models, according to an article from Near Field Communications World, which on Tuesday reported spotting a press release announcing the device online at MarketWatch. The release has not appeared elsewhere and no longer appears on MarketWatch's website at the page NFC World linked to in its story.
Quoting the release, NFC World said trials of the NFC payment sleeve would begin this summer. Visa declined to comment about the iPhone announement to American Banker but confirmed that it works with DeviceFidelity.
