WASHINGTON - Riggs National Corp. earned $1.2 million in the third quarter, rebounding from its net loss of $61.2 million in the year-earlier quarter.
The latest results included a $9.5 million loan-loss provision, primarily for commercial real estate loans in Washington, and $15.7 million in provisions and writedowns for other real estate owned in Washington and Britain. Those factors were partially offset by securities gains of$22.1 million.
Riggs has earned $3 million in the first nine months of 1992, compared with a net loss of $65.6 million in the corresponding period last year.
