Roundup: Bancorp Hawaii Eyeing a Nonbank Name

Bancorp Hawaii said it plans to change its name to Pacific Century Financial Corp., assuming shareholders approve the measure on April 25.

"With our presence in Asia, the Pacific, and the U.S. mainland, the name Pacific Century Financial Corp. better communicates the scope of our business and better describes our geographic reach," said Lawrence M. Johnson, chairman and CEO of Bancorp Hawaii and its principal subsidiary, Bank of Hawaii.

Mr. Johnson said Bank of Hawaii wouldn't change its name or identity. The company's First Federal Savings and Loan Association of America would also retain its current name.

First National Bank of Arizona, a subsidiary which serves the state of Arizona, would be the first to change its name to Pacific Century. Another subsidiary, Hawaiian Trust Co., would become Pacific Century Trust Co.

Bancorp Investment Group and Bancorp Leasing will also take on the Pacific Century name.

However, Bancorp Hawaii's New York Stock Exchange ticker symbol, BOH, will remain the same.
