Roundup: Compass Opens Branches in 2 Texas Cities

Compass Banks of Texas Inc. has two new full-service branches, in Houston and San Antonio.

The Houston office, in the Woodway Square shopping center, is expected to attract increased private banking, investment management, and personal trust business, said Charles E. McMahen, chairman and chief executive officer. Compass now has 43 branches in Houston and 17 in San Antonio.

Jim C. Kollaer, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Houston Partnership, said the city's banks are benefiting from growth in other industries. In particular, the energy, health, and space sectors are doing well, he said.

Compass Banks of Texas is a subsidiary of $12.1 billion-asset Compass Bancshares, Birmingham, Ala. The parent company has 222 branches in Alabama, Florida, and Texas.
