SLM Corp., the student lender better known as Sallie Mae, has hired executives from MBNA Corp. and Credit Suisse Group to lead its credit and finance departments.
Sallie said Monday that it had hired John "Jack" Hewes to be an executive vice president and to fill the newly created position of chief credit officer.
Mr. Hewes led MBNA's consumer finance and business lending divisions; Bank of America Corp. bought MBNA in 2005.
Sallie also hired Jonathan Clark as a senior vice president of corporate finance. He will oversee unsecured debt issuance and treasury operations and will work with the asset-backed securitization division.
Mr. Clark oversaw student loan financing at Credit Suisse.
Sallie has shuffled its senior management considerably in recent months. A few days ago it finalized a $31.3 billion credit facility to continue funding student loans in the tight credit market.
