Mr. Bridgeman, who had been in charge of strategy, planning, and administration for Schwab Investor Services, succeeded Walt Bettinger, who was named the San Francisco parent company's chief operating officer in February. Mr. Goldman, who had been Schwab Institutional's chief operating officer, succeeded Deborah Doyle McWhinney, who retired.

Mr. Bridgeman has worked for Schwab Investor Services since June 2004. He was hired by the parent company in 1996 to help develop its 401(k) business and eventually oversaw all aspects of its 401(k) solutions.

Mr. Goldman joined Schwab in 2001, holding strategy and development posts before being put in charge of Schwab Institutional's day-to-day operations.

Schwab Institutional serves more than 5,000 independent investment advisors with custodial, operational and business development support services.

Charles Schwab Corp., which announced the promotions Monday, has more than 300 offices and 6.8 million client brokerage accounts and has $1.3 trillion of client assets under management.
