Seattle thrift selling retirement-plan unit.

SEATTLE -- Washington Mutual Savings Bank said it has signed an agreement to sell a retirement-plan consulting and administration business to Howard Johnson & Co.

Howard Johnson, a Seattle-based employee benefits and compensation consulting firm, would be purchasing the accounts and client list of Benefit Service Corp., a Washington Mutual subsidiary.

Washington Mutual said it expects to complete the sale by next Tuesday, but did not disclose the terms.
