Senate Banking Sets Vote on Bernanke

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd said Tuesday that his panel would meet Dec. 17 to vote on President Obama's nomination of Ben Bernanke to chair the Federal Reserve Board for another four years.

Bernanke is expected to win the committee's approval, but the vote is expected to be closer than for any Fed chairman in recent memory. Sen. Richard Shelby, the top GOP member of the panel, has yet to commit to supporting Bernanke's nomination.

Bernanke's current term at the Fed ends on Jan. 31.
