WASHINGTON — The Senate Banking Committee voted to advance the nominations for three key financial services positions on Thursday.
The committee approved the nominations of Martin Greunberg to be chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and Thomas Curry to be Comptroller of the Currency. It also approved the nomination of Roy Woodall Jr. to be a member of the Financial Stability Oversight Council.
The nominations will be sent to the Senate, but it's unclear when the chamber will vote on them. Sen. Richard Shelby, the committee's top Republican, and Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., have both expressed concerns about Curry.
Although Corker said Thursday he had no ideological issues with any of the nominees, he'd like to meet with Curry again before the final Senate vote.
"I would like to spend some more time with him, just to get a stronger sense of his independence," he said. "It's possible that, if those (discussions) are not fruitful, on the floor I may vote a different way."
