Shawmut unit starts ad blitz on new name.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Connecticut National Bank said it had launched an intensive advertising campaign Monday to announce its name change to Shawmut Bank.

The name will change Jan. 11. The campaign will run through the end of January.

More than 1,000 Connecticut National Bank signs will be changed over the next several weeks. Other components of the campaign include 30-second television spots, dioramas at Bradley International Airport, billboards on major highways, and newspaper ads.

"Our primary concern is to ensure that all of our customers are notified of and feel secure with the impending name change," said Eileen S. Kraus, president of the Connecticut unit of Shawmut National Corp. "The theme of the advertising campaign is that only the bank's name is changing - all else will remain the same."
