Silicon Valley Bank recruits former Capital One exec as chief product officer

Silicon Valley Bank has appointed a former Capital One executive with fintech experience to be the company’s new chief product officer.

Gagan Kanjlia joins the Santa Clara, Calif.-based Silicon Valley Bank after spending two-plus years as the head of product for OnDeck, an online lending provider for small businesses. Before OnDeck, Kanjlia spent 14 years at Capital One in a variety of positions.

"Gagan brings a wide breadth of experience in digital financial services and will be instrumental as we evolve our product set to meet the needs of our innovative clients,” Mike Descheneaux, president of Silicon Valley Bank, said in a press release.

Kanjlia is expected to lead all product-related activities at Silicon Valley while working with senior leadership on overall product strategy, according to the press release.

At Capital One, Kanjlia helped spearhead the Capital One Garage, the bank’s innovation center in Plano, Texas. Capital One Garage specializes in developing digital products for the bank’s auto finance and home loans divisions. Kanjlia led both areas at the innovation center for two years and launched what’s described at the first instantly issued prequalification mortgage loans for consumers.

Kanjlia also helped Capital One develop a number of products the bank still uses to this day, according to his LinkedIn profile. He led a team at the bank that built an instant bank-to-bank instant payment service based on a patented system using debit cards and ACH.

Kanjlia also developed a customer risk decisioning system based entirely on non-credit data that Capital One deployed across its ATM and branch network.
