Hypercom Corp. unveiled a touch-screen banking terminal with smart card capability in Brazil last week.

The ICE 5000 device, previewed in Sao Paulo, would allow consumers to see bank and investment account information as well as download or transfer funds to or from smart cards.

Hypercom envisions the terminal, incorporating many of the company's point of sale features such as a 9,600 baud modem and high-speed thermal printer, being deployed "virtually anywhere," said Jairo E. Gonzalez, president of Hypercom International. "We believe this solution will dramatically enhance consumer banking in Brazil by providing greater accessibility and convenience," he said.
