The Tokyo payments technology vendor said the service, which went live July 5, is the first to deliver such payments capabilities through a remote cloud system in Japan.

SoftBank Telecom, a subsidiary of the SoftBank Group, is targeting Japan's Internet service providers, online shopping sites and convenience stores with the service, dubbed "White Cloud Clearing Adapter." With browser-based cloud technology, companies do not need different clearing systems for different payment methods.

Developed by SoftBank Payment Service Corp., another SoftBank Group subsidiary, the service enables immediate transaction settlements, a key advantage for online businesses, said SoftBank spokeswoman Yuko Miki.

The servicecan handle most payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, PayPal Inc. and mobile payments.
