Spare Change: Thrift CEO Led His Band of Bankers To Rock Hall Of Fame

If you ever hear Marc Stefanski, chief executive officer of Cleveland-based Third Federal Savings, say "These go to 11," don't assume he's talking about the thrift's CD rates.

In all likelihood, he's referring to his band's amplifiers.

For the past two years, Mr. Stefanski and several other bank employees have been jamming in a company-sponsored rock band called "The Once a Month Club." Led by Mr. Stefanski - he is CEO, after all - the group has played at a number of company events, including a 1998 blowout at Cleveland's Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

"We get together and invite all of our associates to come to a place locally, and the band plays," Mr. Stefanski said. "We had a gig at the Rock Hall about two years ago, and we had about 2,500 people."

Mr. Stefanski - who sings and plays keyboards and drums - said the band helps create an enjoyable work environment at $6.6 billion-asset Third Federal. "It's one of the little things that happens around here that differentiates us from other banks," he said.

No word on a possible tour with Spinal Tap.
