SunTrust's Florida unit names Wendell Colson as chairman.

Wender H. Colson, president of SunBanks Inc., Orlando, has assumed the additional post of chairman of the Florida-wide bank holding company.

SunBanks is a part of Sun-Trust Banks Inc., a superregional bank holding company based in Atlanta.

Theodore J. Hoepner, president of SunBank, lead bank in the SunBanks system, assumed the additional duties of chairman of SunBank.

Mr. Hoepner and Mr. Colson succeeded Buell G. Duncan Jr, who retired from the chairman posts on Aug. 1.

Mr. Colson, 62, has been president of SunBanks since 1989. He began his banking career in 1952 as SunBank's first management trainee. The 18-bank holding company operates more than 375 offices.

Mr. Hoepner, 52, has been president and chief executive officer of SunBank since 1990. He joined the SunBank system in 1968 with a predecessor bank and has been chairman and CEO of the Jacksonville and Miami affiliate banks.
