BBN Corp. said it formed an alliance with Investment Dealers' Digest Enterprises to offer electronic commerce systems to the financial services community.

BBN, a leading Internet service and software provider, and the publisher of Investment Dealers' Digest magazine worked together on Liberty Financial Cos.' Internet-based delivery technology called Leaps-Liberty Environment for Advanced Personalized Services.

Liberty Financial's mutual fund sites were the first in the financial industry to use digital certification methods to assure consumer identities.

"Security and information access are the two critical components of any financial services Internet strategy," said Stephen Cohn, vice president of Secure Systems at BBN. "Our relationship with IDD enables financial services companies to maximize the Internet's potential."

With IDD providing news, data, and related secure software, the companies are targeting banks, mutual funds, brokerages, and insurance companies with on-line banking, trading, portfolio management, and bill payment applications.
