Tech Bytes: Chekiang of Hong Kong Gives Contract to NCR

NCR Corp. has won a $13 million contract from Chekiang First Bank in Hong Kong.

NCR will provide the bank, a subsidiary of Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank of Japan, with retail banking software and hardware products designed for the Hong Kong market. The products are geared to improve customer relationship management.

"Chekiang First Bank is partnering with NCR to tap its superior banking expertise in developing next-generation retail banking solutions," said Leo Kung, Chekiang's senior assistant chief manager.

The two-year contract includes the installation of NCR's WorldMark server, which will replace the bank's IBM ES9000 mainframe computer. In addition, the company will supply more than 350 personal computers and Windows NT file servers for teller and branch automation.
