Tech Bytes: Deluxe Puts Its Name On Authorization Unit

Electronic Transaction Corp., a Deluxe Corp. subsidiary that provides check authorization to retailers, has changed its name to Deluxe Payment Protection Systems.

The unit will operate as a division of Deluxe Corp., the Minnesota-based check printer that is retooling itself around information technology.

The payment protection unit will continue to use the brand name Scan - an acronym for shared check authorization network. It is the biggest service of its kind, handling 2.1 billion checks worth $118 billion last year for 400 retailing companies with 60,000 outlets.

"The name change is part of Deluxe's strategy to integrate all of its protection services into one comprehensive information network," said Scan president Tim Birk. "Scan is even better positioned to provide advanced and effective solutions to our retail customers as a result of synergies among our product lines."
