Tech Bytes: Digicash CEO Joins Software Firm's Board

Home Account Network Inc., a company known for on- line banking software based on the Java programming language, has named Scott J. Loftesness to its board.

Mr. Loftesness recently became chief executive officer of Digicash Inc., developer of a virtual cash system for Internet commerce. Before that he was group executive in First Data Corp.'s electronic funds services group, where he was a colleague of Home Account Network chief executive officer Charles A. White.

Mr. White was president of First Data's electronic commerce group and worked on its MSFDC joint venture with Microsoft Corp. before joining Home Account in August.

Mr. White described Mr. Loftesness-who has also worked at Visa International, Fidelity Management & Research Corp., and International Business Machines Corp.-as "a seasoned executive with a profound understanding of electronic commerce, the financial services marketplace, and the role of emerging technologies."

Mr. Loftesness is a founder and director of Com21 Inc. and a board member of several privately held companies including Valicert Inc., the digital certificate validation company.
