Tech Bytes: Entrust Software Support For Biometric Devices

Entrust Technologies Inc. said it is adding biometric devices to the list of hardware attachments compatible with its public key cryptography software.

Biometric devices such as fingerprint readers can assure the identity of a system user and enhance the level of security provided by passwords, software, and/or security tokens like smart cards.

Entrust said its software will be ready to support digital certificates in conjunction with hardware devices early next year. It listed several vendors of token and hardware add-ons working with Entrust: ActivCard, American Biometric, the Atalla division of Tandem Computers, Chrysalis, Datakey, Keyware, Litronic, nCipher, and Rainbow Technologies.
