Tech Bytes: Hypercom Wins HSBC Networking Job

Hypercom Corp. said it has been awarded a $12 million contract to supply networking technology to HSBC Midland Bank in the United Kingdom.

The network is based on frame relay technology, through which the bank is seeking significant telecommunications savings. Conversions of 1,700 U.K. branches are to be completed by yearend.

Hypercom is supplying its Integrated Enterprise Network 4000 and 6000 systems for comprehensive local area network services.

Roy Adoni, HSBC Midland's head of information technology operations, said the bank will often "disdain the offerings of so-called market leaders in favor of breakthrough technology from less well-known, but more responsive, suppliers." Of Hypercom he said, "there is a lot of functionality packed onto that one platform."
