Tech Bytes: Meca Software in Deal With Data Customizer

Meca Software has formed a partnership with Marimba Inc., a software company that delivers customized information to personal computer screens via the Internet.

Meca is owned by several banks, and its Managing Your Money on-line banking program has 300,000 users-mostly customers of NationsBank Corp. and BankAmerica Corp.

Marimba, based in San Francisco, has created Castanet, a "push" technology that takes information from the Internet and directs it toward users who have expressed interest in a particular subject.

Meca's software will soon come bundled with Castanet. The partnership advances Meca's effort to give banks the ability to tailor more services to specific customers.

"Our strategy is to assist financial services companies in building a value-added delivery system for their individual and small-business clients, and our Marimba alliance significantly advances that plan," said Paul Harrison, president and chief executive officer of Meca.
