Tech Bytes: Nasdaq to Track Trades with Unisys Servers

The Nasdaq exchange has bought 22 Windows NT-based enterprise servers from Unisys Corp. for $2.1 million.

Unisys' ClearPath IX6800 server software can track more than 800 trades a second to ensure regulatory compliance throughout the trading day.

The Nasdaq sale is part of the ClearPath servers' growing acceptance as they replace mainframe servers, said Stephen Holzman, a company spokesman. He said a Unisys system replaces a competing mainframe every 10 days.

International Data Corp. has reported that Unisys' share of the mainframe business grew from 4.7% to 6.2% in 1998.
