Tech Bytes: Reuters Invests in E-Commerce Security Firm

Entegrity Solutions Corp., a Silicon Valley company that specializes in security technologies for electronic commerce, has obtained an equity investment from Reuters Group.

The investment, of undisclosed size, is part of Reuters' "greenhouse program," supporting technologies of strategic interest to the United Kingdom-based financial information company.

Reuters said it expects to develop information products that incorporate Entegrity systems, which are built around public key data encryption technology.

Entegrity, founded in 1996 and based in San Jose, Calif., is funded by venture capital. It will add a Reuters representative to its board.

Also in this round of Reuters strategic funding are three other U.S. companies: Aurigin Systems Inc., which has data base technology for the intellectual property industry; Northern Light Technology LLC, which offers a high-end "research engine" for professional and business users; and Persistence Software Inc., which develops transactional application servers for distributed business processing. The Reuters subsidiary Instinet is a Persistence customer.
