Banks' were consistently given higher marks for reputation by customers than non-customers, according to RepTrak's 2026 reputation survey. Chime was ranked at the top spot among customers with a score of 85.1, slightly ahead of USAA Bank at 84.9 and Regions at 84.7.

According to 14,000 responses from informed members of the public, the banking industry's overall reputation, which has recovered a the dip after 2023 bank failures, edged modestly down from 70.9 in 2025 to 70.5 this year. New concerns over artificial intelligence and a deregulatory environment, however, have heightened the importance of conduct and responsibility according to the study, with respondents expressing less willingness to trust banks to fix problems when something goes wrong.

In the 14,000 public responses gathered in May, customers primarily prioritized firms' quality of products and services followed by professional conduct. Respondents also placed particular emphasis on whether banks meet customer needs and operate ethically.
