Total System Services Inc. is extending health-care payment services to Puerto Rico through an arrangement with Paytech Corp., a Puerto Rico e-commerce transaction processor.
In Puerto Rico, TSYS Merchant Solutions, which is the merchant acquirer's new name, is to leverage the payment-technology services of First Paid Healthcare Solutions, the health-care software suite it gained in its deal for First National Merchant Solutions.
Paytech is to help market these services in Puerto Rico, TSYS said in a Jan. 13 press release.
First Paid Healthcare offers Web-based software designed to let doctors and other health-care providers collect payments more efficiently.
When integrated with systems in a doctor's office or clinic, the software confirms a patient's insurance coverage and benefits, then generates an estimate of the person's out-of-pocket expense at the time service is delivered.
TSYS Merchant Solutions acquires, routes and settles the payments.
The service is the first in Puerto Rico that lets providers "efficiently" collect patients' out-of-pocket expenses, Candido Alfonso, Paytech's chief executive and president, said in the release.
