U.K. Visa Spending Rose 10% in 2Q

Residents of the United Kingdom increased spending on Visa-branded payment cards by 10% in the second quarter from a year earlier, to $124 billion, Visa Europe said Thursday.

That was higher than the 8.4% increase reported in the first quarter, the company said, citing data from Markit Economics Ltd. in London.

The data was released as part of Visa Europe's U.K. Expenditure Index, which was unveiled Thursday, based on payments made with the 91 million Visa debit, credit and prepaid cards in the United Kingdom.
