UMB to Buy 1-Branch Oklahoma City Bank

UMB Financial Corp. of Kansas City, Mo., plans to buy Oklahoma City- based Charter Bancshares for an undisclosed sum.

Charter, with $53 million of assets, is the privately held parent of Charter National Bank.

Its single office would boost to six the number of branches that UMB has in Oklahoma City.

UMB, with $7.4 billion of assets, said the deal is part of a plan to expand its presence in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The sale is expected to close in early 2000.
