Union Bankshares in Va. hires industry veteran as bank president

Union Bankshares in Richmond, Va., has named Maria Tedesco as its bank president.

Tedesco will lead the commercial, business and consumer banking and wealth management teams at Union Bank & Trust, starting Sept. 28. The $13 billion-asset Union said she will also oversee enterprisewide functions of marketing, digital strategy and customer experience.

“While serving together on the Consumer Bankers Association Small Business Committee, I observed first hand that Maria was an impressive thought leader in the banking industry,” John Asbury, Union's president and CEO, said in a press release Wednesday.

“Maria brings more than 30 years of both small and large bank experience to Union and understands the important role the bank and its teammates play in our communities," Asbury added. "She has a strong track record of building integrated, cross-functional teams sharply focused on a great customer experience and has a reputation for being able to get things done, while balancing strategy with execution.”

Tedesco, 58, recently served as chief operating officer for retail at BMO Harris Bank in Chicago, where she was responsible for retail products, segments, customer experience, indirect auto, consumer and small-business lending, business banking strategy, channels and risk. Before that she was managing director of the retail bank at Santander Bank.

Tedesco has been included on American Banker's Women to Watch list.
