United Security in Alabama Names CFO

United Security Bancshares (USBI) in Thomasville, Ala., has recruited its next chief financial officer from Regions Financial (RF).

Thomas Elley will become CFO and treasurer of United Security and its $556 million-asset banking unit on Oct. 15. He will succeed Robert Steen, who will remain as an executive vice president until he retires at yearend.

Elley had been accounting policy manager and a line-of-business controller for the Birmingham, Ala.-based Regions. Previously, he was a senior manager with Deloitte & Touche.

Elley "has a strong background in bank accounting and will be a solid addition to our company," James House, the president and chief executive of United Security, said in a news release Tuesday. "We look forward to his leadership as we continue to focus on the improvement of asset quality as part of our strategy to increase earnings and move the bank forward."

Steen, 64, has been CFO of United Security since 2003 and of its banking unit since 1997.
