U.S. Bancorp Lands Airline Issuing Deal

U.S. Bancorp said Thursday that it has agreed to issue frequent-flier credit cards for TACA Airlines of San Salvador.

The cards will run on the Visa Inc. network, the Minneapolis banking company said.

They will come in two versions: standard Visa and Visa Signature, the San Francisco payments network's premium card for affluent consumers.

Cardholders will earn one mile for ever dollar spent on the card, and double that for purchases from the airline.

TACA operates in eight major U.S. cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, New York, Washington and Miami. The airline flies to 40 destinations in 23 countries in the Western hemisphere. Distancia, TACA's frequent-flier loyalty program, has several hundred thousand members in the United States.

U.S. Bancorp has more than 40 airline card clients.
