Virginia Contributes $100,000 to Capital 1

Gov. George Allen of Virginia presented a $100,000 check to Capital One Financial Corp. and Henrico County to support Capital One's construction of an operations center in Glen Allen.

The money comes from the Virginia Governor's "opportunity fund," which is used to encourage economic development. The $100,000 from the state, combined with $166,000 from the county, will be used to develop a road leading to the office park that will house the Capital One office.

Capital One, based in Falls Church, Va., moved almost 500 customer service employees into an adjacent 108,000-square-foot facility. Capital One's plan to add 1,000 employees this year has won praise from government officials.

Gov. Allen said it is "a company that uses creative, high- technology strategies to provide excellent service for its customers and an excellent workplace for hard-working Virginia employees."

"Our continued expansion in the Richmond area is possible thanks to the successful partnership we have with Henrico County and the commonwealth's officials," said Capital One chairman Richard D. Fairbank.
