Visa Inc. said Tuesday that it has completed its acquisition of the online payments company PlaySpan Inc.
Visa said last month that it would pay $190 million for PlaySpan to complement its 2010 purchase of CyberSource Corp. for $2 billion.
PlaySpan, of Santa Clara, Calif., sells an online currency that can be used to buy digital content within online games or to pay the fees to access those games.
On its website, PlaySpan lists the popular Facebook game FarmVille and the online sword-and-sorcery game EverQuest among those that accept its currency.
Analysts said the purchase would give Visa the tools to improve its standing for purchases in online games, social networks and in smartphone apps. PlaySpan said the deal would help it reach more merchants.
