Visa puts ATM in Moscow hotel.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Visa cardholders can obtain U.S. dollars from an automated teller machine in the Metropol Hotel in Moscow, Visa International announced.

The machine is operated by Russia's Mosbusiness Bank and is hooked into Visa's worldwide ATM network. It can provide cash advances to all Visa cardholders. The Metropol Hotel is the flagship of the Intourist group and is between the Kremlin and the Bolshoi Theater.

"The introduction of ATM's was not possible until a low-cost, simple way of providing ATM technology in Moscow was found," said Greg Bjorndahl, senior vice president for product development at Visa International. "The Visa ATM in Moscow uses new electronic cash-transfer technology."

The machine will be used mainly by foreign Visa cardholders but can also be used by about 600 customers of Credo-bank, the first commercial bank in Russia to issue Visa cards.
