Vivotech Inc. and Monitise PLC started a mobile payment services partnership targeting U.S. banks.
The service, which lets people turn their handsets into mobile wallets linked to their bank accounts and credit and debit cards, is to use contactless technology delivered through the combination of Vivotech's over-the-air software and Monitise's mobile-money software, the latter said Tuesday.
Using Vivotech software, mobile-phone providers and issuers may remotely load credit, debit or prepaid card information into a secure chip placed in a near-field communications mobile phone, a SIM card or a microSD card. Monitise, of London, and Vivotech, a Santa Clara, Calif., vendor, did not say when the service will be available.
