Wagner Adds CEO's Duties At Old Kent Financial Corp.

David J. Wagner, president of Old Kent Financial Corp., has been elected to the additional post of chief executive.

He succeeds John C. Canepa, who will continue as chairman of the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based bank holding company. Mr. Wagner will continue as chairman of the principal subsidiary, Old Kent Bank.

In addition, the lead bank's president, Robert L. Sadler, has been appointed to the additional post of chief executive there. Mr. Sadler is also vice chairman of Old Kent Financial.

Mr. Wagner joined Old Kent in 1977. He was elected as president and director of Old Kent Bank in Grand Rapids in 1986, chief executive in 1989, and chairman last June. He has been a director of the holding company since 1992, becoming president in March 1994.

Mr. Sadler joined Old Kent in 1965. He has been a board member of Old Kent Financial since 1976 and as vice chairman since 1989. He was elected president and director at Old Kent Bank last June.
