Western Union Names Operating Chief

Western Union Co. said Monday that it has promoted Hikmet Ersek to chief operating officer.

Ersek is the Englewood, Colo., company's executive vice president and managing director for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. He will assume his new role Jan. 1, and will continue to report to Christina A. Gold, Western Union's president and chief executive.

Western Union also announced last week that it has extended its agreement to deliver remittance services through Postal Savings Bank of China. The Chinese company offers Western Union services at 20,000 locations throughout the country, including major cities and rural areas.

It has been a Western Union client since 2001; the remittance company did not say how long the contract renewal would run.
