Albert Forkner, who had been Wyoming's acting banking commissioner since January, was appointed to the position permanently in late March.

Forkner, who had been an assistant banking commissioner since 2008, has worked in both state and federal bank supervision and at community and national banks.

"I believe Albert's banking and regulatory qualifications, management style and vision will benefit both the citizenry and the financial services industry in Wyoming," Jeff Vogel, the Wyoming Department of Audit director, said in announcing Forkner's promotion last month.

Recently several states have needed to fill vacant banking commissioner posts. North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue has nominated Ray Grace to take over as banking commissioner after Joseph A. Smith, Jr. resigned to monitor the 49-state mortgage settlement with the five largest servicers.

Teveia R. Barnes was sworn in as the new commissioner of California's Department of Financial Institutions in March after William Haraf resigned; and Linda Charity is currently serving as interim commissioner for Florida's Office of Financial Regulation after Tom Grady stepped down last month to head the state's largest insurer.
