Xenith Elects Chairman of the Board of Directors

Xenith Bankshares (XBKS) in Richmond, Va., has named Thomas Snead Jr. chairman.

Snead has served on the board of Xenith since May 2013, the $680 million-asset company said in a press release. He is a retiree who served as president and chief executive officer of the Southeastern region of Wellpoint Inc., a managed care and health insurance company, from 2004 to 2006. He also was the president of Anthem Southeast, a subsidiary of Anthem Inc., and chairman and CEO of Trigon Healthcare.

Currently Snead also serves on the board of directors of Tredegar Corp. (TG) and CSA Medical, Inc., a privately held medical device company, as well as several community organizations, including the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business School Foundation.

Snead replaces Malcolm McDonald, who retired on May 1 after serving as chairman since December 2009.

Xenith's goals are to become more profitable and expand in the region, McDonald said in the release.
