Defense Department Offers to Defend IDs of Breach Victims

The Defense Department is offering a year of credit monitoring to the nearly 5 million people affected by a data breach in September.

The breach of data from the military health plan Tricare occurred when a backup tape containing 20 years of patient data went missing, the San Antonio Express-News reported Saturday. The tape held Social Security numbers, addresses and other personal details that could be used to commit identity theft.
