Thai Airways International on Feb. 15 began accepting credit cards for ticket payments in Australia, an official from the airline’s ticketing department tells PaymentsSource. The card brands accepted include American Express, Diners Club, Master Card and Visa.
The airline is charging a credit card service fee of AU$30 (US$27 or 20 euros) to partially recover the cost of merchant-service fees incurred to accept credit card payments, according to the official. “This charge will form part of the total tax collection on the ticket,” he adds. “Tickets which are paid by part cash and part credit card will still be subject to collection of the fee.”
If a ticket goes unused, the airline will refund the service fee, according to the official. Bangkok-based Thai Airways flies 47 times a week to Bangkok from different cities in Australia.
