Alliance Data's Chargeoffs Fall; Delinquencies Rise

Alliance Data Systems Corp. reported that net chargeoffs on its private-label credit cards fell slightly in July while delinquencies edged up from a year earlier.

The company said the charge-off rate was 4.5% last month, down from 4.7% a year earlier and unchanged from June. As of July 31, the delinquency rate was 4.2%, compared with 4% a year earlier and 3.9% in June.

Alliance Data operates loyalty programs and private-label credit cards for retailers such as Victoria's Secret, Ann Taylor and Pottery Barn. Its results have improved lately as credit quality and credit card sales improve.

Last month, the company reported second-quarter earnings rose 12% as its core private-label credit-card business posted double-digit revenue growth.
