Ally Bank has begun offering person-to-person payments through CashEdge Inc.’s Popmoney service.

The Ally Financial Inc. unit announced June 21 that customers could use the service to direct payments using a recipient’s email address, mobile-phone number or bank account number.

If someone sends funds using an email address or mobile number, the recipient would have to provide a bank account number at popmoney.com to complete the transaction.

Other banks, including PNC Financial Services Group Inc., also offer CashEdge’s Popmoney service.
