American Express Officially Introduces Gift Card Commemorating Chinese New Year

American Express Co. Jan. 13 officially released a gift card to commemorate the Chinese New Year, which begins Feb. 14. AmEx originally announced the card in October when it eliminated monthly fees on all its gift cards (see story).

The limited-edition Auspicious Year of the Tiger Gift Card is available online for $3.95 with free shipping. It features a golden roaring tiger against a red background and is available in denominations of US$25, US$50, US$100 and US$200. The card is targeted at the Chinese-American community, American Express says in a statement.

A special $88-denomination card is available in select retail locations, American Express confirmed to PaymentsSource. In Chinese culture, the number 88 represents good luck.
