The Arthritis Foundation, an Atlanta-based health organization, Tuesday announced it is offering its members and contributors an affinity debit card supported by Tempo Payments Inc., which provides a Web-based platform that enables organizations to offer affinity and cobranded debit cards to customers, contributors and members. Cardholders can access the Web-based platform to link their cards to a preexisting checking account. The Arthritis Foundation receives a charitable donation through a portion of the transaction fee from each cardholder purchase, though Tempo did not say how much. In October, Tempo announced The Breast Cancer Fund, Greenpeace and the Surfrider Foundation as the first organizations to offer affinity MasterCard-branded debits cards that generate charitable donations from cardholder purchases (CardLine, 10/19). Last month, Dogster Inc., a creator of pet owner Web sites, became the fourth organization to offer an affinity debit card through Tempo (CardLine, 11/17).
