National Australia Bank says it has begun issuing Visa-branded contactless credit cards. The initiative represents the first time the Australia-based financial institution has issued contactless payment cards. National joins at least one other financial institution in the country promoting contactless payments. Earlier this year, Australia's Commonwealth Bank told CardLine Global it would distribute 5,000 contactless-payment readers to merchants throughout Australia by the end of the year. National Australia Bank says it is deploying more than 2,000 contactless-payment terminals at stores in Melbourne and Sydney. The bank also says it will deploy terminals at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to reduce lines for cricket fans.
