Australia-based Coca-Cola Amatil (Aust) Pty Ltd. has begun a three-month test of cashless vending machines in Australia, an effort that could lead to enabling customers to buy beverages with contactless cards. The test began in the last week of July. "Over 150 machines will be set up under the pilot," Gary Meier, general manager of Coke Vending, an arm of Amatil, tells CardLine Global. The firm is working with New Zealand-based Vending Management Services Ltd. on the project, which will enable consumers to use MasterCard and Visa-branded credit and debit cards to buy drinks. "Our next rollout phase will also include contactless machines," Meier says. Amatil operates at least 35,000 vending machines.
