Barbers get EMV through Payworks, Squire mPOS partnership

Global payment gateway Payworks will partner with Squire to bring EMV chip card payments to the barbershop.

Payworks will integrate its cloud-based EMV platform to the mobile point of sale through Squire, an independent software vendor specializing in web and mobile business management applications for barbershops.

The partnership will work through Stripe's payment platform. Stripe operates as the payment processor for Squire and its barbershop clients. Payworks will add the Payworks PayButton, allowing Stripe users to integrate a card reader into apps within minutes to process EMV and contactless payments.

“All app-based point-of-sale solution providers are searching for a quick and easy way to integrate EMV card acceptance into their application,” Michael Doron, managing director of Payworks, said in an Aug. 22 press release.

By including card acceptance through Payworks, Squire says it will enable its barbers to have access to the latest payment technology. Merchants can keep the same Stripe account for both online and point-of-sale payments.

“There’s a great sense of ease and convenience when working with an app,” Dave Salvant, president of Squire, said in an Aug. 22 press release. “But for our barbers to have access to the best point of sale solution for their business and clients, card acceptance has to be available."

By working with Payworks, Squire has made implementation of EMV acceptance "straight-forward and painless, which is exactly what we wanted,” Salvant added.

Both Payworks and Squire operate out of New York City. Squire launched more than a year ago in more than 20 cities across the U.S.

Payworks' office in Germany earlier this month established a partnership with Alipay to expand its payment gateway services in China.
