A program designed to identify and help Barclaycard customers who might have credit problems has received calls from more than 6,000 cardholders since the scheme's introduction in March, a spokesperson for the United Kingdom-based credit card issuer tells CardLine Global. Additionally, Barclaycard has contacted about 11,500 customers with changes in account behavior, such as regularly spending near credit limits, that could signify financial troubles. The issuer contacts customers through phone calls or text messages. Barclaycard, an arm of Barclays PLC, said Monday it will promote the service through credit card statement inserts to some 2 million customers. Help for distressed cardholders can include reduced minimum payments or telling customers where to go for debt-management advice. Barclaycard has about 11.9 million UK customers.
